Feminists like Big Red are to feminism what the West Boro Baptists are to Christianity. Only feminists like her are even worse because while the West Boro Baptists are horrible disgusting human beings, they're a group of like 30 with little to no power over the rest of Christianity. Meanwhile feminists like Big Red on the other hand can get away with censorship and even assault and actually have people DEFEND THEIR ACTIONS.@chaoticartcrazy
It’s a wee bit scary because the core ideals should be valued and if the judgement towards adding more projects such as the music industry is not unanimous then it should be a vetoed no
Idk no one should have that much power
As a woman from the US, the only legitimate issue so far is abortion rights (specifically in Texas). Everything else is "I need feminism because someone said something offensive."@archmasterjazzy
I’m sure there may be other issues but honestly I’ve not seen any other MAJOR issue…
Oh don't get me wrong, there are legitimate issues both in the U.S and Western countries, but western feminists always seem to focus on the most ridiculous minutia that it's unbelievable. And don't even get me started on the radicals who have WAY too much power and WAY too much say in the movement like Big Red.@chaoticartcrazy
I am continuously gobsmacked by how so many people can be so power hungry and lustful over matters such as revenge and humiliation for the silliest of matters
I was interested to see how you felt about blurred lines. While I take the subjects of rape very seriously, I felt that there was an overreaction, and a misunderstanding of the lyrics. Up until tumblr started talking about it, I always viewed the "blurred lines" as "mixed signals", not an issue of consent. You know, flirting with him and dancing with him but being like "No I have a boyfriend" sort of thing. Common in music. Though I also think Robin could have handled the criticism better.@Anonymous
I do think he could have handled the thing better, but as it is… Thicke wanted a publicity stunt. And in today’s pop music industry, if you want to go big, you gotta have an IT factor that establishes you around - his was the controversial factor.
Never mind the fact that Robin Thicke is a father and a husband whose wife CONTRIBUTED to the making of the song/video. Which in itself speaks levels of how biased Tumblr can be.
how does robin thicke being a father and a husband stop blurred lines as well as thicke’s behaviour being creepy as shit
just because his wife worked on the video doesn’t mean it’s not still…really sexist and really creepy? i mean there were women IN that video, does that then mean the women in it being degraded makes it not sexist too?
you can be a woman and still hold oppressive views?
It helps with acknowledging the fact that he has the capability of being a decent human being if has married his high school sweetheart and was committed enough to have a child with her. There is a level of respect that goes into that kind of relationship that makes a guy a man that shows that he is capable of being normal.
They wanted a publicity stunt, these aren’t oppressive views as much as they are controversial ways of broadcasting a mediocre song. Like you can have your opinion on this, and see it as oppressive, but those women who contributed to the song and the others who approve of it are equally in the right to be stating it isn’t as oppressive as people might think it is.
okay your opinion on the song is fair and yours to have but uh i mean you are definitely a minority in this case
and you definitely dont speak for the loads of people offended with it?
marrying your high school sweetheart and having a child doesn’t make you a decent human being, it means you married your high school sweetheart and had a kid, but that is…irrelevant if he’s singing songs that are (quite easily and for a reason) can be interpreted as date rape? i mean, in addition to the video. just because he’s married and has a kid doesn’t mean he’s not capable of doing shitty things
also i think dismissing the fact that it may have just been a ‘publicity stunt’ erases that crap out of the - literally, hundreds and thousands of people - who found the superbowl performance exploitative as well as offensive? i mean you can say you interpreted it as one thing but don’t pretend people getting offended over it is a purely tumblr thing, that is dismissive and not cool. i mean just typing in ‘robin thicke sexist’ on google comes up with a ridiculous number of non-tumblr, mainstream articles on why the song is problematic
i mean it’s been banned in five universities in the UK for promoting sexism, it’s not a ‘tumblr phenomenon’ to be offended at that song
i’m also not sure what you mean by ‘normal’ in this context
what i don’t understand is how “married high school sweetheart and had a kid with her” negates everything or how that implies anything. it’s a cute story but beyond that that doesn’t actually say anything about his character. and women can perpetuate sexism and internalize misogyny.
i mean yeah that’s what i’ve been trying to say and it’s weird to dismiss the people who find the song offensive as a ‘minority’ because that is definitely…not…true…
In comparison to what Ihave seen and heard, the minority are the ones speaking up on such a topic.
It’s like when the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks were battling it out, the Mensheviks were the majority but does history remember them quite so well? no. Why? Because the Bolsheviks made sure they were always on top of things and getting every single opportunity to state what they wanted to say.
again, your interpretation, that’s fine and i respectfully disagree but even a cursory search on the web shows that thicke has more nays than yays
also i wouldn’t compare this to the russian revolution because the public opinion of a man considered to be a sexist in comparison with the battle of two political parties for the future of their country isn’t an apt comparison in the slightest
also thicke comes from a life of privilege, the man didn’t work to get where he was, he used daddy’s money, i mean, you can say he had dedication but not a lot of his success can be attributed to him
Because the search results are not by any chance affected by the keyboard terms and the popularity of the mindset.
Person oblivious of the situation types innocently the key terms and is riddled with so many popular pages that have been popularised by equally oblivious people.
No I think its a generally good comparison in the format of how a alleged minority is speaking over an alleged majority. Can’t remember any incidents over the top of my head that have the same scenario of minority over majority.
